lyrics
Flying paper planes through the skies above the park
Waiting for the deep romantic dark
The Bayswater Road and the traffic in Park Lane
We ran beneath the trees to escape the summer rain
We did our courting, enjoyed our pauper lunch
We knew we held the future in our hands
We threw a coin into the silver Serpentine
Allowed our dreams to fashion all our plans
We are the spirits of Hyde Park
And we will stay the constant young
Destined to walk these paths forever
We are the spirits of Hyde Park
And we composed for you this song
These last remains: Our London love letter
We returned today and found all our bridges burned
We saw the decades in ashes on the ground
Everything was white even in the darkest night
Our memories were all that we found
The Royal Albert Hall: Like a giant bejewelled tortoise
It was crawling down the road to Kensington
The echoes of music suspended in the trees
Ahh – nostalgia a welcome disease
We are the spirits of Hyde Park
And we will stay the constant young
Destined to walk these paths forever
We are the spirits of Hyde Park
And we composed for you this song
These last remains: Our London love letter

When my girlfriend and I were courting in London in 1967 we used to spend many days walking through the city`s beautiful parks. We had no money so would just buy a bag of crisps and a piece of cheese for our pauper`s lunch. We would then walk to Kensington passed the Royal Albert Hall. We would browse in Biba`s in Kensington Church Street and be dazzled by the prices.
We occasionally have a day in London from our home in the country and always return to the parks and enjoy the nostalgia and memories of that innocent time so long ago.
